11. Darrell Bock writes that the point of connection between this story and our lives is the feelings of helplessness we sometimes have about where Jesus has led us. Can you resonate with such feelings? What is a storm in the past year that has caused you to question where Jesus has led you?
2. In the midst of suffering, what are some truths about God that you might be inclined to forget? What traits of Jesus do we see in this passage, to strengthen our faith when it is weak?
3. Has it ever seemed to you that God was asleep in the midst of one of your storms? What does faith embrace in those times?
4. One reason God allows storms into our lives is to refine our faith (1 Peter 1:6-7). What are some other reasons that the Bible offers why God's people suffer?
5. If suffering exposes what we are relying on, how is your current struggle with despair, hopelessness, impatience or bitterness a window on what is actually ruling your heart?
