WHAT DOES A TYPICAL SUNDAY MORNING AT JOY LOOK LIKE?
Approximately 30 Sundays out of the year, we begin at 9:00am with Sunday School classes for all ages. Click here for more information about our current classes.
At 10:00am we begin our worship gathering, which lasts approximately 90 minutes. This is the central meeting for our church every week. It’s where we come together to encourage each other, to listen to God’s word to us, and to respond to him based on what He has told us. Our time together is always built around the Bible.
We pray the Bible. Prayers of praise based on what the Bible says about who God is and what he has done. Prayers of confession and thanksgiving based on what we know of our sin and God’s promise to forgive us through Jesus. And prayers of supplication, where we ask God for what we need, as the Bible invites us to do.
We sing the Bible. Our songs unpack the good news about Jesus and give us a chance to respond to that news. They’re aimed both at God, in praise, and at one another, to remind each other to trust His promises.
We listen to the Bible. At the center of each gathering is a sermon that typically works verse-by-verse through sections of the Bible. Our goal is to understand what God has said and how it affects our lives.
On the first Sunday every month we celebrate the Lord’s Supper at the conclusion of our service. In partaking of the bread and the cup, we remember how our Lord gave His body and blood for our salvation, and has united us together into one Body. Likewise, as we have opportunity, we celebrate the ordinance of Baptism at the conclusion of our service. Upon their profession of faith, we are able to observe this wonderful picture of a Christian’s union with Christ, as we are buried with Him in death, and raised with Him to newness of life.
WHERE CAN I TAKE MY CHILDREN?
During the main service, childcare is provided for ages birth through 4 years old in our church basement. Children can be checked into their nurseries by using the steps downstairs outside the sanctuary. Children from kindergarten up are invited to be part of the entire worship service, as we believe there is a special joy in having children worship God with their families. Kids questions are provided at the Welcome Desk to help the younger kids engage with the sermon.
IS YOUR FACILITY WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE?
Yes. If you will let us know beforehand that you are coming, we are happy to meet you at the entrance to make sure you are able to comfortably enter the building.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO A SUNDAY SERVICE?
Most people at Joy dress casually on Sundays, but you’ll see everything from t-shirts and jeans to dresses and sport jackets. We believe that God is more concerned about our hearts than with our outward appearance, so wear whatever suits you.
