where the life of the church takes place

Life Groups at Joy are the primary organizing structure of the church. They are the church's hub of discipleship, pastoral care, fellowship and mission.

Fundamentally, we believe that "church" is not a place you go to or an event you attend, but a people knit together through faith in Jesus Christ. Biblical commands to love, serve, confess sins, encourage, admonish, comfort, and pray for one another show how intimate the Christian community is called to be. So do biblical images for the Church as a family (Ephesians 2:19) and a body (1 Corinthians 12:1-31). These commands and metaphors simply cannot be lived out in just a weekly gathering.

While our weekly worship gathering is a precious time of celebration and equipping, we believe that it's in Life Groups where the life of the church takes place. Our desire is that every member of Joy would be knit into a Life Group (8-12 members per group, multiplying and giving birth to new groups as new disciples are made), where they can experience what it means to be God's family engaging in Christ's mission of making disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18-20).
