New Sermon Series: Worship When...

For many believers, the Psalms are one of the most beloved books in the Bible, because of the way it captures such a wide range of human experiences, emotions and circumstances. You may be reading one Psalm, and observing the Psalmist’s delight in God’s intimacy. Then you turn the page and the next Psalm finds the Psalmist lamenting God’s apparent absence. One Psalm is filled with exultation, “Your love never fails!”; the next, a sorrowful cry, “How long, O Lord?”

We’re drawn to the Psalms because that’s how life is. One day, or week, our hearts are brimming with joy at God’s goodness and faithfulness. The next, it feels like He’s completely vanished, and we wonder how a good God could allow these circumstances to come into our lives. The Psalms do not gloss over this human experience; they give expression to it.

This summer, we hope to capture that wide range of human experience in our 10-week sermon series, “Worship When…” We believe that worship is not an act confined to Sunday mornings, but is meant to be the way we live our entire lives. But what does it mean to worship God when we’re anxious and frightened? When life just doesn’t seem to be fair? When we’ve sinned against God? When it feels like God has abandoned us?

That is what we’ll be considering from July 6th through September 7th, as we look at ten different Psalms, in hopes of gaining a greater grasp on how God’s people are meant to engage with God in the whole range of human experiences.

As a church, we long to see God glorified in all things: “From Him and through Him and to Him are all things; to Him be glory forever and ever!” (Romans 11:36). And it’s our earnest prayer that God would use these sermons to strengthen His people to bring glory to God in any and every circumstance that we find ourselves in.
